Fantasy Series that Have Gone on for Too Long

The worst offenders, in terms of fantasy series that have gone on for too long are:
  1. The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan; as you probably know, Brandon Sanderson is finishing these and one thing I have to say for the man is he can actually tie up loose ends!
  2. Crown of Stars by Kate Elliott.  At about book 4, you started to see notes from the author that there would be one more volume and that it would be called Crown of Stars.  It ended up being 7 volumes.  (5 would've been a good number.)
  3. Anything from my Worst Fantasy Series post; part of what makes something a terrible series is that the author doesn't know when to quit.
And, even though I like the Sword of Shadows series by J.V. Jones, if she doesn't finish it up soon, it might deserve a place on this list.  Raif's imprisonment in a cage and fighting amongst the Sull went on for so long that I grew tired of it in Watcher of the Dead.
