I don't have a coherent post planned for the day so I'm just going to start writing and see what I get.
First of all, I'm a top reviewer in at least one category on Book Country. Guess it doesn't take much for this classification to be applied. I've written three reviews, only one of which actually has a rating. Probably because I've reviewed posts there that don't have a lot of reviews/readers. Seems that new reviews get put at the top, so there's no harm in offering comments on popular works. Still, I like to be able to give advice to people who aren't getting a lot of attention (even though it's harder to find their work).
Second of all, this synopsis writing is hard. I got the first four paragraphs and I'm happy with those; they'd be great back cover/book jacket material. But then I just start talking about the story and I feel like I'm doing plot summary. I'm going to continue in this vein, until I get to the end, but then I'll probably look for overall themes and shorten it. The problem is that there are quite a few characters and subplots, and the way the book starts out does not have a lot to do with how it ends, other than that a number of the same people are present. But new people have been added, and all. You know, there is an overarching theme of manipulation by one individual, but the characters are just beginning to catch on by the end, and they have more pressing concerns than to sit around and worry about this guy. (At any rate, they don't understand him at this point, or know what he wants.)
Third, I'm having a hard time coming up with material for this blog lately. I'm committed to writing 10 posts a week, but I feel like sometimes they're just reblogs of stories I saw on other sites, and I'm not so enthused about those posts. I think it shows in the writing. I'll spend a little time today looking for material. Of course I still plan to post reviews, I just haven't had a lot of time to read lately. Book Country's been eating a lot of my time (that site is addictive) and I need to start exercising again (kind of let myself go in the weeks leading up to my PhD defense).
Well, that's a respectable length for this post. Think I'll just click "publish" now and move on to something else.
