As I mentioned in previous posts, I sent my manuscript off to my first-choice publisher a couple of weeks ago. I know, now I've got to wait at least the amount of time recommended by the publisher on the company website. So I have potentially as many as five more months to go.
I was curious as to what actual response times from fantasy publishers were. I did actually manage to find a small data set on the web, so I thought I'd share it in case other people were in the same boat. Note: if you click on the publisher names, you get a list of individual response times as well as the results (overwhelmingly rejections, which is not encouraging except for two things: first, it's a small data set more likely to be populated by the disgruntled, and second, I've beaten some pretty long odds before in my life).
Submitting to the Black Hole from Critters.org
It's actually hard to find this information on the web. But the site is regularly updated (as of last week). There's a form to submit to self-report your own wait times. Do it! We can improve the data set, which could benefit everyone.
